Montan wax

It is a mixture of wax, resin and asphalt obtained by extracting waxy coal (mainly lignite or certain peat) with solvents (such as benzene, gasoline, etc.). It has a relatively hard texture, a high melting point, is acid-resistant, has good chemical stability, glossiness, and electrical insulation. It is easily soluble in organic solvents, can be mixed with petroleum wax, stearic acid, etc., and has no carcinogenic effect.
It is widely used as a substitute and supplement for expensive natural animal and plant waxes, such as in the production of carbon paper, shoe polish, floor wax, polishing wax, metal polish, etc. It is also used in medium-temperature mold materials for investment casting, as well as leather finishing and electrical insulation.‌
