Taiwan’s Plastics Industry Shows How Green Innovation Can Overcome Trade Barriers

Taiwan’s plastics and rubber industry is confidently positioning itself on the global market. At K 2025 in Düsseldorf, the world’s largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry, 118 Taiwanese companies showcased their strengths in sustainable technologies and intelligent manufacturing.

Taiwanese companies impressively demonstrated at K 2025 how they are advancing the green transformation of the plastics industry. Polystar's "Recycling Made Simple" approach showcased innovative recycling solutions for the circular economy – ranging from film and fiber recycling to complete turnkey systems for post-consumer materials. With higher levels of automation and energy-efficient technologies, the company makes recycling more attractive and economical. Meanwhile, Jumbo Steel Machinery showcased sustainable production systems with a focus on biodegradable materials and energy-efficient packaging solutions. These examples show how Taiwanese manufacturers successfully combine innovation and environmental consciousness, thereby achieving both ecological and economic objectives. 

Smart Manufacturing Demonstrates Taiwan’s Industrial Strength 

During the exhibition, Ku Jui-Sheng, the newly appointed Representative of Taiwan in Germany, personally visited the Taiwan Pavilion to learn about the exhibition’s achievements and future technologies. Taiwan’s plastics machinery industry is one of the sectors most affected by U.S. punitive tariffs, while also facing price and technology competition from other major exporting countries. The Taiwanese government will continue to support companies in seizing new business opportunities through differentiation strategies, thereby safeguarding Taiwan’s competitiveness in the global plastics and rubber industry. 

Taiwanese manufacturers such as Chumpower, Huarong, Fu Chun Shin, and Fong Kee held 17 “Smart Machinery Flash Presentations” during the exhibition week, showcasing their latest injection molding, extrusion, and blown film machines. The focus was on energy-efficient, automated, and interconnected solutions, highlighting the comprehensive competitiveness of Taiwan’s plastics industry. 

Opening Ceremony Highlights Taiwan’s Resilience 

Together with the International Trade Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) organized the “Taiwan Pavilion.” Within this pavilion, 34 Taiwanese companies jointly presented their capabilities. An immersive industrial supply chain experience area connected 31 upstream and downstream suppliers with 80 products, displaying the entire value chain — from raw materials and machinery to finished products. 

official opening ceremony, moderated by Simon Wang, President & CEO of Taiwan External Trade Development Council(TAITRA), honored guests included David Chang, Chairman of the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), Mei-Shun Lo, Director General of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany based in Frankfurt, and Bush Hsieh and Ryan Hsiao, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Plastics and Rubber Machinery committee, Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry(TAMI). 

Simon Wang emphasized that intelligent manufacturing, advanced materials, and green transformation are the key directions for the future development of Taiwan’s industry. Through technological upgrades and diversified market strategies, Taiwan will deepen international cooperation and become a global sustainability partner. 

“Taiwan Night” Strengthens International Partnerships 

At the networking event “Taiwan Night” on the Wednesday of the fair, Taiwanese companies met with international buyers. As guests of honor, TAITRA welcomed Florian Mikulasch, Manager of Economy & Markets at VDMA, as well as Petra Cullmann, Executive Director of Messe Düsseldorf. Together with representatives from machinery associations and plastics committees, they discussed future global trends in the industry. 

Outlook: TaipeiPLAS 2026

In response to international challenges, Taiwan, together with the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, will host the Taipei International Plastics & Rubber Industry Exhibition (TaipeiPLAS) from 15 to 19 September 2026. The trade fair’s theme will be “Form to Future – Shaping the Future.” Focusing on intelligent manufacturing, innovative materials, and sustainable circular systems, Taiwan’s leading companies will showcase themselves as global players on their home turf at this event.
