Description
Polylactic acid (PLA) is produced from crops such as corn and cassava through microbial fermentation and extraction to obtain lactic acid, which is then purified, dehydrated, oligomerized, and polymerized. PLA exhibits excellent biodegradability as it can be completely decomposed by soil microorganisms within one year after disposal, generating CO2 and water without polluting the environment. PLA itself is an aliphatic polyester with the basic characteristics of a general-purpose macromolecular material. It has low shrinkage and can be used for most synthetic resin applications. It is widely used in packaging materials, disposable tableware, home appliance covers, fibers, 3D printing.
